I can't believe that next week is the big reveal already! That means with one week left to go it is time to pull all of the little details together. To be honest, this is the fun stuff that I live for. When designing a room it's easy to get exhausted by the floor plans, measurements, sourcing and budgets. Those things are SO important to the success of a project, but they definitely aren't the exciting moments highlighted on design shows. The accessories and art are where all the excitement lives. It is when a space is totally infused with personality and starts to come to life. Today I want to share just a few glimpses into the details that will make this office a unique space just for me.
My absolute favorite piece of artwork for this space has huge sentimental value and was created by my all time favorite artist; my daughter. I love children's artwork and am a firm believer that it should be displayed in one's home. When you take the time to properly matte and frame their art it can transform from crayola and construction paper into something amazing. This particular piece is especially sentimental to me because it is the first drawing my 2 year old daughter made specifically for me. She ran over to me after drawing this shouting "LOOK, LOOK, LOOK. For Mama, it's for Mama." Cue my heart exploding. As a parent, there are so many times when we are tested beyond the boundaries of our patience and pushed beyond exhaustion. I like to cherish these happy moments as fuel to keep going through all of the tough ones. This will be in my office forever.
I also included some classic pieces in the space. I have two Audubon prints for the side of one of the windows. These are tried and true images. I think good design is sometimes about respecting the classics and reinterpreting them in new ways. I love how the pink flamingo and blue heron echo the overall color palette of the room. I also love how they are both completely traditional and a little whimsical at the same time.
The pièce de résistance in this space though has to be the hot pink juju hat that will be a main focal point in the "dressing" area of the room. The extremely talented and super sweet Charlotte Smith from Ciburbanity mentioned she had an extra juju hat and I jumped at the chance to bring more color, texture and fun into this space! I adore how it looks, and it perfectly balances out the pink from my office chair. I also love how it mimics the pink feathers from the flamingo print!
All the other details?.... Well you will just have to wait until next Thursday when I share the full reveal. In the meantime, make sure you've been following along with all of the other participants here. I am in awe of their talent and creativity and I can't wait to see their spaces transformed.
